Contents pages are very well laid out, they normally are organised in columns. Contents page are normally jam packed, full of lots of images and text in order to catch the audiences' eye and how the magazine has a lot to offer.
The first magazine 'NME' consists of three columns or separate sections, magazine are split into many columns to plan out the positioning and layout on the page. The third section is the contents page; the contents page is split into sections which are News, Radar, Reviews, Live and Features. The articles advertised on the front have an arrow from them to tell the audience where they can find the article that wanted to read. 'NME' is made for a niche market so only people know the music would buy this magazine. The language used is very informal, chatty and there is lots of swearing in the magazine. There are lots of rhetorical questions used to make the audience feel involved. For example ‘Kings of Leon Are they ready for rock’s premier league?’ There is also language especially for educated people who like the music that 'NME' writes about like alliteration ‘Spiritualised sonic spaceman’. The magazine also includes Radars which are exclusives that no other magazine has got. There is a lot of emphasis on words like ‘dead rats’, ‘crack heads’ and ‘prostitutes’. They have opened their heats to 'NME.' The colours used in 'NME magazine are mostly primary colours. They use the same colour scheme as the front cover which is red, yellow and blue.
The 'Kerrang' contents page is rebellious and it uses very extreme language which is a lot naughtier like 'This award weighs about the same as my cock...' and 'fan fuckin' tastic'. 'Kerrang' is more visual because it appeals to the non-educated who prefer images. The contents page is very brief, the editor 'Kerrang' but only uses his first name as if he trying to be their friend. The language used is informal and it flatters the reader for example 'can't do without you'. The magazine contains a lot of humour which appeals to the audience. Some writing that is big in 'NME' is small in 'Kerrang' for example 'This week'. 'Kerrang' uses in your face which are loud. The colour theme is yellow and black which is used for the font this has a bee suggestion which applies bees sting so there is danger in the magazine, this is a deliberate house style.
